Keighley, West Yorkshire - Where I Live

"The dark satanic mill town of Keighley" I've never forgotten that title from a national newspaper in the late '60s. The article was by the Keighley rugby league team, now called Keighley Cougars.

Then, when you looked at the horizon you could see the mill chimneys above the rest of the city. The mill chimneys were gradually demolished and now as Keighley in a valley you can see fields and trees in the distance by almost allView.

Dining Pool Table Combo

Keighley West Riding of Yorkshire is a major producer of textiles, but now the mill buildings, the land has not been burned or vandalized were converted into smaller units, a wide variety of stores or homes.

The population was 51,000 at the 2001 census and is apparently the third largest city in Britain. About 18% of the population are ethnic minorities, the addition of a multi-cultural city and some beautiful IndianItalian and Chinese restaurants. Keighley is pronounced "lee Keeth," but the residents there to the annoyance of many people beyond the city Keeley Keighley.

Transport

Travel around and Keighley is not difficult. We have a railway station and award-winning new bus station close to the center with regular services in and around the area and easy access to many cities. Bradford is just 10 miles and 20 miles from Leeds and, of course, the Leeds / BradfordThe airport is easily accessible.

There are many taxi companies in Keighley reliable and I found that using a combination of various means of transport and on foot I need my transportation, because everything is at hand. It works well with my own cheaper gasoline-guzzling transportation.

Shopping

We have a modern shopping mall and several business parks offer almost everything you want to buy. I'll have to buy a new pair ofClothes that are a little 'different I make a day out and take a 20-minute train ride from Leeds and store in the city or visit the White Rose Centre.

Keighley has a permanent market, closed and with some regularity, we visited the continental markets with a wider range of products.

Leisure

We performed a number of parks in the area with plenty of green space for children and to ensure the game fenced area, bowls, etc. We have a recreation centerin Victoria Park, where there is a modern swimming pool with waterslide and a fitness center. Victoria Park is hosting our annual gala in the summer and occasional visiting circuses and fairs. Inside the park there is the Victoria Hall where the functions and performances are often held.

There is a museum based on the Cliff Hall Cliff Castle, which held regular exhibitions. For families, there is a fenced playground and a café. Picnic tables are provided for those who love meGrandchildren, who prefer going around a picnic in the middle. There was a small zoo with guinea pigs and some species of birds the last time I went in the summer. Years ago there were monkeys, but now all the monkeys in the area seem to live next to a house with my mother. More than 50, you might think!

Park in Lund, there are two playgrounds, one for older children and a fenced area for small children. There is a bowling green and a putting green and a bike path withSlopes that my nephew who loves 4 years of skateboarding.

Nights Out

It 's always been a lot of pubs in the area, perhaps because we have an award-winning brewery in the city. If you want locally, there are many restaurants with different cultural meals. Dancing is a bit 'thin on the ground with only two catering to different age groups and are not good. However, there are many good clubs within driving distance of Bradford, Leeds and even morealso in Wakefield.

Tourism

Keighley is part of the Bronte country, a few miles from Haworth, where the famous literary Bronte family lived. In addition to traditional media, you can travel in Haworth on the Keighley and Worth Valley line from Keighley station on a steam train in the summer of Oxenhope. This is a line of inheritance and different positions of the Railway Children, Yanks and the film of Pink Floyd "The Wall" have been used include music.

ToFirst stop is 300 meters from my home in Ingrow Museum of Rail Travel is one. It 'also the starting point for the days of Thomas the tank engine out.
I took my grandson last summer, and could climb aboard Thomas and pull the whistle. It 'was a show performed several times during the day for children and various stalls. After the show we were able to travel on steam trains all day at an affordable price. At each stop there were more shows and stalls, making it an excellentAfter day. Towards Christmas there is a Santa Special steam train day.

Haworth takes a lot of American and Japanese tourists who want to steep themselves in the history of Bronte. There are a museum, a steep cobbled street Bronte, Bronte waterfall and, of course, the moors where the fictitious Cathy and Heathcliff wandered. There are many antique shops and tea rooms and some good hotels.

Skipton, "The Gate of the Valley" is located 10 miles away. A good starting point for excursionsHoliday for those who want to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Skipton is also one of the most complete medieval castles in the country and is over 900 years. Historical re-enactment events, archery and fencing are often held Skipton Castle.

10 miles in the opposite direction is the city of Bradford, where the National Media Museum, the most visited museum outside London. Bradford is home to several festivals, including the Bradford Festival in June andBradford Mela, which is the largest festival of its kind outside of Asia. There are 4 theaters in Bradford and for those who play, enjoy it is not difficult to get to Harrogate and its theater.

Living in Keighley

Although Keighley is often beaten by the press and some people who do not think it's a bad place to live. I feel safe in my house and walk the streets, and have easy access to everything I want. Housing is cheap compared to many otherPlaces in the United Kingdom. You can still get a 2-bedroom Terrace for less than £ 100,000 or any other type of accommodation at reasonable prices.

I never found it difficult to obtain employment in or around Keighley and the opportunities are different. The locals are friendly and very down to earth. He speaks with a Yorkshire accent, which is not as extensive as some of the surrounding rural areas, certainly not to say 'ee bah gum' regularly!

The area in andKeighley to offer much more than I have mentioned, but hopefully this article gives you a good impression of my hometown.
